When I know what I need to get done, what is expected of me, what I want to see accomplished,&nbsp;<em>then I can choose what to do<\/em>.&nbsp; I can make a conscious decision to spend my time on something or ignore it. I sweep the floor and forget to prep today\u2019s school lessons. My bathroom cabinet gets organized but then a birthday shows up on the calendar and I do not have gifts or plans made to celebrate that child. I end up folding laundry that could be done whenever and not thawing the meat for tonight\u2019s dinner.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What is most important to you?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>What absolutely must be done this week?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>What is coming next week or next month that you need to think about?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>What life season are you in&nbsp;and what does that mean for your activities?&nbsp;<\/li><li>What does&nbsp;your season&nbsp;mean&nbsp;for your&nbsp;meal planning?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>List-making saves me time and brain space.&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If I have lists&nbsp;ready&nbsp;then&nbsp;I am able to do similar things together. I batch my tasks so that I am not scattered and wasting time. It is faster and more efficient to get everything done in one category all at once.&nbsp; I am no longer getting things done in pieces randomly. Also, if I know that I need milk and cheese at the grocery store then I can get them both while I am there.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What categories&nbsp;do your tasks have?&nbsp;<\/li><li>Do you have tasks that are similar that you can do together?&nbsp;<\/li><li>Can&nbsp;you&nbsp;meal prep several dinners all at once?&nbsp;<\/li><li>Can you fold 3 loads of laundry this afternoon and then&nbsp;be done for a few days?&nbsp;<\/li><li>Batching is all about&nbsp;efficiency.&nbsp;&nbsp;Think assembly line workers. What can you get done all at once while you listen to a podcast?&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lists stretch me out of my comfort zone.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>They remind me to be flexible and try new things.&nbsp;&nbsp;Let me explain. Seasonal bucket lists&nbsp;are something I make every few months to enjoy the weather and current calendar season.&nbsp;&nbsp;We often have a meeting as a family and talk about what would be fun to add to this season.&nbsp; We like to look at last year\u2019s calendar and Pinterest to get ideas.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Spring \u2013 Egg hunts, carnivals, finding spring&nbsp;wildflowers, homemade&nbsp;crafts&nbsp;<\/li><li>Summer \u2013&nbsp;swimming, outdoor music events,&nbsp;BBQ foods,&nbsp;VBS, fireworks&nbsp;<\/li><li>Fall \u2013&nbsp;Pumpkin picking, fall festivals,&nbsp;hikes&nbsp;to see leaves changing,&nbsp;baking&nbsp;<\/li><li>Back to School&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;first day celebrations,&nbsp;school shopping,&nbsp;new reading lists&nbsp;<\/li><li>Christmas&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;light displays,&nbsp;paid performances,&nbsp;decorating, family&nbsp;recipes&nbsp;<\/li><li>Winter \u2013 soup in the crockpot, playing in the snow, hot cocoa,&nbsp;candles&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:33% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"479\" src=\"https:\/\/www.embracinghome.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/jess-bailey-4YytUXyMHs8-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1875 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.embracinghome.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/jess-bailey-4YytUXyMHs8-unsplash.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.embracinghome.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/jess-bailey-4YytUXyMHs8-unsplash-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What do your seasonal&nbsp;rhythms&nbsp;look like?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" id=\"block-b15a47a0-a79e-4bb6-afe4-5b3036368178\"><li>What do you normally do during this calendar season?&nbsp;<\/li><li>What activities have interested you in the past?&nbsp;<\/li><li>Are there foods that you love to make?&nbsp;Specific people&nbsp;to&nbsp;see?&nbsp;<\/li><li>What feels like&nbsp;spring\/summer\/fall\/winter to you??&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lists remind me that connection is important.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I have date night lists, things to do with Jim, and movies we want to watch together. I also love lists about things to do with each of my kids. I have lists for questions to ask to have great conversations, fun things to do together, responsibilities to teach them, places to go, recipes to try, rainy day activities, difficult topics to discuss with my teens, books to read together, and restaurants to eat at as a family.&nbsp;These help me be the \u201cFun Mom\u201d that I want to be, instead of the&nbsp;task-oriented&nbsp;slave driver that I tend to lean toward.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What are some fun and free activities that you want to do with your family?&nbsp;<\/li><li>Where would you go with your kids if you had an afternoon free?&nbsp;<\/li><li>How will you teach&nbsp;them to cook?&nbsp;<\/li><li>What books are you reading together? What audiobooks are you listening to on long car rides?&nbsp;<\/li><li>Are there&nbsp;restaurants&nbsp;that you go to often?&nbsp;What are some new ones to try?&nbsp;<\/li><li>If you were a tourist in your town, where would you go? What would you do? Where would you eat?&nbsp;What is special about your local area?&nbsp;<\/li><li>What are some fun questions you can ask to get to know your kid better?&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lists help me keep track of what I have completed.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I love&nbsp;<em>Ta-Da lists<\/em>!!&nbsp; They keep me grounded in what I have&nbsp;actually done.&nbsp;When I get in a funk the most effective thing for me to do is write out all the&nbsp;things&nbsp;I have done that day. I write down all the silly&nbsp;small things&nbsp;and the big ones. I list all the things I have done to grow relationships along with the household tasks. This makes a dramatic difference for me. I can see in a tangible way everything I have completed&nbsp;and also&nbsp;list out everything I want to do.&nbsp;It&nbsp;validates&nbsp;the truth of my situation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cover is-light\" style=\"min-height:308px;aspect-ratio:unset;\"><span aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-cover__background has-background-dim-0 has-background-dim\"><\/span><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" class=\"wp-block-cover__image-background wp-image-1878\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.embracinghome.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/hybrid-uGP_6CAD-14-unsplash.jpg\" data-object-fit=\"cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.embracinghome.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/hybrid-uGP_6CAD-14-unsplash.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.embracinghome.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/hybrid-uGP_6CAD-14-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><div class=\"wp-block-cover__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-cover-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"has-dark-gray-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\">YAY! <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ta-Da List Questions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What small things have I done today?&nbsp;<\/li><li>What big things have worked on?&nbsp;<\/li><li>What healthy habits have I made progress on?&nbsp;<\/li><li>This morning I have made breakfast, grocery shopped, sorted the mail, folded a load of laundry, built a pillow fort in living room, snacks, talked with neighbor, lunch prep\u2026.etc.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I&nbsp;am able to&nbsp;reset my expectations when I see that I have a list of 20+ things that I am expecting myself to do during a one-hour toddler nap time. Or I can give myself credit when I see over 30 things listed that I have done before 3:00pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I often&nbsp;overestimate&nbsp;how much I can get done and&nbsp;underestimate&nbsp;how much I have already&nbsp;accomplished.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote is-style-default\"><blockquote><p><strong>The beauty of lists is&nbsp;actually&nbsp;NOT&nbsp;doing all the things.&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.embracinghome.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/that-s-her-business-R4sP8_Bq0Bw-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1886\" width=\"685\" height=\"457\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.embracinghome.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/that-s-her-business-R4sP8_Bq0Bw-unsplash.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.embracinghome.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/that-s-her-business-R4sP8_Bq0Bw-unsplash-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 685px) 100vw, 685px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Make Lists?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I have created these&nbsp;diverse kinds&nbsp;of lists after spending way too much time on the wrong things. I have lists for each of these areas that I use for reference.&nbsp;&nbsp;There is space in my bullet journal for my goals in each of these places.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>But really these lists are not about accomplishment, they are about focus<\/strong><strong>.&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>Am I spending my time on things that I care about?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lists are not about completion<\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s&nbsp;say that I am looking at a \u201cWinter Fun Bucket List\u201d and I only get 5 things done before March.&nbsp;&nbsp;That\u2019s&nbsp;awesome!&nbsp;&nbsp;We did some fun things together that made our time feel more like a cozy and fun winter season.&nbsp;Five things are&nbsp;definitely more&nbsp;than zero! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next year will come around again and I can do the others that&nbsp;didn\u2019t&nbsp;fit into this year.
