And in this busy season, it feels like self-kindness to make a 2-month plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a class=\"image-link image2 is-viewable-img\" href=\"https:\/\/substackcdn.com\/image\/fetch\/$s_!tVu2!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep\/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fff0eaf0a-0932-44f8-b979-6333b5206a6f_2000x1600.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/substackcdn.com\/image\/fetch\/$s_!tVu2!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep\/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2Fff0eaf0a-0932-44f8-b979-6333b5206a6f_2000x1600.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Plans, hopes &amp; goals:<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>My monthly personal curriculum is not just a reading list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I keep a small personal goals list too because I want my days to hold more than errands, chores, and finished books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reading shapes my thinking, but living well also means trying things, making things, and intentional planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>my planning notes:<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>personal goals To-Do list<\/strong>:Putting these ideas on the list helps me actually use the supplies I already own and turn good intentions into real experiences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Outdoor activities<\/strong> \u2014 As well as frequent walks in the neighborhood, I plan to hike around when we go camping later in March.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cooking <\/strong>\u2014 I am going to keep things simple this spring and just focus on well loved family favorites and simple homemade dinners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Art \/ Tactile Hobbies<\/strong> \u2014 I plan to get back into watercolor painting and doing some more drawing with the kids. We love to work on our art projects at the schoolroom table together and then show off what we worked on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Creative Recovery<\/strong> \u2014 I will continue my <a href=\"https:\/\/open.substack.com\/pub\/embracinghome\/p\/feeling-like-a-weirdo-journaling?r=1qjcbv&amp;utm_campaign=post&amp;utm_medium=web&amp;showWelcomeOnShare=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">journaling<\/a> practices as well as using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.suleikajaouad.com\/the-book-of-alchemy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Book of Alchemy<\/a> for my morning pages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Slow Living<\/strong> \u2014 I am hoping that my booklist will slow me down and keep me present. My oldest 2 will also be home for spring break so some relaxed coffee shop visits will definitely be happening as well! \u2615<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Creative Inspiration Field Trip<\/strong> \u2014 Visiting <strong>Taliesin West<\/strong>: Frank Lloyd Wright\u2019s home and studio in Scottsdale, Arizona. I got to go visit this historic landmark and do the audio tour with Mary and her BFF. It wasn\u2019t as big as we expected but very inspiring. (It\u2019s kinda cheating to add it here since we went at the end of February, but that\u2019s okay.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped writing down some ideas for each month has been so inspiring!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other things I will be focused on this month that are a bit less glamorous: continue to make progress on our school work, help Mary with wedding planning things (she is so organized!), volunteer work at church, some extended family events and visits, and declutter projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spring is a bit exhausting. year. These books help me grow personally and often go along with current interests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>bookish themed <\/strong>\u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.susanorlean.com\/author\/books\/the-library-book\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>The Library Book <\/em><\/strong>by Susan Orlean<\/a>\ud83d\udcd6. The focus of the book is the unsolved mystery of the most catastrophic library fire in American history. But Orlean also explains the inner workings of libraries, the interesting people that work there, and even the history of book burnings. I happened upon the backstory and research of this book while listening to her memoir: <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/101234\/9781982135164\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Joyride<\/em><\/strong><\/a> and I just had to read it. The hardback is beautiful and even features an image of a library card on the back inside cover.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I also got the documentary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt9355194\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>The Booksellers<\/em><\/strong> (2020)<\/a> \ud83c\udfa5\ud83c\udf7ffrom the library and watched it this last weekend. This film profiles the New York community of rare book collectors and dealers. I really enjoyed the structure of it and I could tell that Susan Orlean was on the writing staff because it follows the way she tells short stories about unique subjects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>memoir <\/strong>\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/a.co\/d\/0bdGPNLc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Garlic and Sapphires<\/em><\/strong> by Ruth Reichl<\/a>\ud83c\udfa7\u2014 This book goes right along with my latest reading trend. It\u2019s a 2005 memoir detailing her time as the New York Times restaurant critic. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Niamh Celeste<\/a> suggested it as \u201cHonestly, laugh out loud funny.\u201d I\u2019m looking forward to listening to it!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>biography <\/strong>\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/allensalkin.com\/fromscratch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>From Scratch: Inside the Food Network<\/em><\/strong> by Allen Salkin<\/a> \ud83d\udcd6- I found this book in a <a href=\"https:\/\/littlefreelibrary.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Little Free Library<\/a>. It\u2019s a behind-the-scenes look at the history and the personalities that have made The Food Network what it is today. I will probably try out some recipes from the people who interest me but I haven\u2019t started it yet, so who knows. \ud83d\ude1c<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All of these books go along with my random current theme of 80\u2019s, 90\u2019s and early 2000\u2019s media personalities. So fun!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>personal growth: Practicing Joy<\/strong> \u2014\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aestheticsofjoy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Joyful<\/em><\/strong> by Ingrid Fetell Lee<\/a> \ud83d\udcd6. In February, I did not get to read this book, but I started it last weekend and I\u2019m loving it! I have honestly never thought about why colorful circles or bright colors in a painting are so joyful until now.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.karenwalrond.com\/books\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Radiant Rebellion<\/em><\/strong><em>: Reclaim Aging, Practice Joy, and Raise a Little Hell Hardcover<\/em> by Karen Walrond<\/a>\ud83d\udcd6. This book has been waiting on my shelf since I enjoyed reading her first book <strong><em>In Defense of Dabbling<\/em><\/strong>this winter. It goes along with my theme of joy and I love the practical nature of her writing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>personal growth: mom life <\/strong><em>\u2014<\/em>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/joyprouty.com\/my-book#\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Practicing Presence<\/em><\/strong><em>: A Mother\u2019s Guide to Savoring Life through the Photos You\u2019re Already Taking<\/em> by Joy Prouty<\/a>\ud83d\udcd6. This was recommended by a dear friend. With all the kids, teens, and young adults staying in my home, being present and enjoying this season will be my focus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coffeeandcrumbs.net\/book\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>You\u2019re In Good Company<\/em><\/strong> by Ashlee Gadd<\/a>\ud83d\udcd6. I am so looking forward to reading and simply flipping through the pages of this beautiful book! I love <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ashlee Gadd<\/a>\u2019s photography style and her honest writing. \ud83e\ude75<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cHospitality without the hype. The immersive experience of getting lost in a book provides me mental space and joy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>a YA fiction romance<\/strong> \u2014 Lara and I found these \u201cBlind Date with a Book\u201d selections at the library. I\u2019ve always wanted to try these at our local 2nd-hand bookstore but I often feel nervous buying a used\/new book I know nothing about. Being able to borrow them from the library is perfect! We are excited to see what we think. I listened to the audiobook last year and I\u2019m looking forward to enjoying this used copy I found in a discount bin at a garage sale. It does have some difficult themes of suicide and death but those didn\u2019t feel overwhelming for me and I enjoyed the ideas of alternative lives lived. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cBetween life and death there is a library, and within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices . . . Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/eviewoods.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>The Lost Bookshop<\/em><\/strong> by Evie Woods<\/a>\ud83d\udcd6 Because of <a href=\"https:\/\/embracinghome.substack.com\/p\/my-february-personal-curriculum-plans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">my February goal<\/a> of reading books from my shelves, I found this one on my TBR shelf. The front cover grabbed my attention. The back blurb hints at adventure, wonder, and a bookshop on a quiet street in Dublin. Yes!!\ud83e\ude75<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>a middle grade selection <\/strong>\u2014 for buddy reading with my preteen. We read the same book for fun so we can have lively <s>debates<\/s> discussions.\ud83d\ude1c\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.andrewclements.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Frindle<\/em><\/strong> by Andrew Clements &amp; <strong><em>The Frindle Files<\/em><\/strong> by Andrew Clements<\/a>.\ud83d\udcd6\ud83c\udfa7 Kyle (age 11) is currently listening to\/reading these books and is enjoying how Clements writes in such a relatable way. We have a large list of his books on audible and many books on our shelf that we love.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>fantasy or mystery <\/strong>\u2014 I have a few on my TBR that will make great book recs but I\u2019m not sure what I will have time or capacity for right now.
