{"id":6293,"date":"2026-06-09T03:42:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T10:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.embracinghome.blog\/?p=6293"},"modified":"2026-05-28T11:57:44","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T18:57:44","slug":"my-1-tip-for-personal-curriculum-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.embracinghome.blog\/index.php\/2026\/06\/09\/my-1-tip-for-personal-curriculum-progress\/","title":{"rendered":"My #1 Tip for Personal Curriculum Progress"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An overly busy and exhausting schedule will leave you with nothing but recovery needs.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because I am anti-gatekeeping and I love to be highly practical here is my main point right away\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>If the goal is adulthood where you feel alive, present, creative, and fully yourself\u2026<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>then you must make space for learning, reading, new hobbies, and community building.<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is very difficult to have a vibrant adult life full of books, creativity, and new skills if you are stressed out and overwhelmed with the daily basics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An overly busy and exhausting schedule will leave you with nothing but recovery needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a class=\"image-link image2\" href=\"https:\/\/substackcdn.com\/image\/fetch\/$s_!6Q7S!,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep\/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F167d460a-273d-4bf0-ad2f-1abc5d30e751_498x199.gif\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/substackcdn.com\/image\/fetch\/$s_!6Q7S!,w_1456,c_limit,f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep\/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F167d460a-273d-4bf0-ad2f-1abc5d30e751_498x199.gif\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Being so deeply worn out every night that you don\u2019t want to leave the couch is not the goal of awesome adulting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believe that you can choose to live differently, be deliberate in your free time, and in your planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>a note from April:<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please hear compassion in my tone when you read this. I want you to push back against the wave of stress from our culture. I want you to reclaim autonomy in your adulting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I totally understand that there are seasons when your life just doesn\u2019t make space for learning. And that is okay. Rest is something that we all desperately need. No matter how old we are or what job we have (or don\u2019t have). No matter economic status, lack of vacation funds, or the demands from our work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cRest is the gift, not a reward. It\u2019s not a hobby that lazy people take advantage of. It is woven into the fabric of our very biology. The body is designed to rest. I don\u2019t have to earn that with my performance. Rest is not a byproduct of my success. It\u2019s a byproduct of my humanity. I don\u2019t have to get ahead to enjoy it or need it.\u201d <\/em>\u2013 Jon Acuff<a id=\"footnote-anchor-1\" href=\"#footnote-1\">1<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>We are not made to work non-stop.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Our bodies were created for rhythms of rest.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s start by defining the word <em>weekend<\/em> as I plan to use it. For our purposes here, a weekend is not specific to Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Here are my definitions:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>weekend:<\/em><\/strong><em> (noun) one to two days off from your normal work and activities. A rest, a time to re-set. Time to slow down from the busy demands of jobs, careers, other people, and tasks.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>These days can happen at any time in the week (preferably together).<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What matters is that you are strategically choosing to take time off from your typical work and do activities that are calming and restorative. That might be an afternoon, a full day, or even 3 days in a row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Take whatever you can get. Your body needs to move at a different pace and your mind needs a break from what you have been focused on during the rest of the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While we are talking about words, we should also define what I mean by <em>rest<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>rest: (noun) freedom from activity or labor, sleep, peace of mind or spirit. Something used for support.<\/em><a href=\"#footnote-2\">2<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amid the weekend, we all allow ourselves (and each other) some space. I know that it goes = in the trash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I do, however, stand there holding a child\u2019s artwork, a bottle of almost empty cleaner, a coupon I might use, or Tupperware container that has lost the lid. All four of these things have the potential to get shoved somewhere so I can decide later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I go through a space and clear the clutter <strong>I essentially choose to make tons of delayed decisions all at once.<\/strong> It is invigorating and freeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clearing clutter gives me an inner sense of calm.A peace that things are where they should be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I get rid of things I no longer need, I am making space for things that do. We are all homemakers or consumers of the spaces where we live, work, and spend our lives.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a relationship between environment and our emotional well-being. The way that I shape my home changes my routines, my daily life, and my relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Homes are NOT naturally comfortable and relaxed. The nature of a busy home is chaotic, messy, disorganized, and grimy. The activities and daily events leave an aftermath that is not pretty. (Or is that just my home?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In my experience, keeping a home organized, clean, and cozy takes a lot of work. But when we take the time to do the hard work of homemaking, we create a place of calm. We can experience restoration and heal from the hustle of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Home can be the favorite place to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We all need safe spaces where we can retreat for reading and relaxing. We need spots where we can sit and think, nap, snuggle, and ponder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Some practical basics of homemaking:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>meal planning<\/strong> \u2014 We all eat multiple times a day. Save yourself money and decision fatigue by tackling some simple meal planning.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/embracinghome.substack.com\/p\/a-homemakers-guide-to-spending-less?r=1qjcbv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spending Less on Food &#8211; A Homemaker\u2019s Guide<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>cleaning<\/strong> \u2014 It\u2019s hard to enjoy reading or a new hobby when the house is gross. Decide on your basics, how often to do them, get help from people in your household, and let go of perfection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>EHAP<\/strong>: Everything Has A Place \u2014 Return the random stuff collected on surfaces to where they belong. When everything has a place there is a mental calm that permeates the room.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>hygge<\/strong> (pronounced: \u201chyoo\u00b7guh\u201d) \u2014 the art of making things cozy, welcoming, and comfortable in each season.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>My favorite piece of adulting is the ability to choose what each room in my house is used for, where the furniture goes, what hangs on the walls, and what that space feels like. I see it as an opportunity. \u201cHygge has been described as everything from the art of creating intimacy, cosines of the soul, the absence of annoyance, to taking pleasure from the presence of soothing things, cosy togetherness and the pursuit of everyday pleasures\u2026 hygge is about creating an atmosphere where we can let your guard down.\u201d \u2013 Mike Wiking<a href=\"#footnote-3\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe it is simple as putting together a stack of books you want to read on the coffee table, or scheduling a workout with a friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reclaim your autonomy with one action step.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p
