My October Recap & Book-ish Things

a little Show-N-Tell with my personal curriculum and my rewards basket

Replay Notes:

Thank you to everyone who tuned into my live video! I hope my little Show-N-Tell and basket contents reveal helps spark new ideas for you!

This month’s personal curriculum was so much fun to work through!

my Commonplace notes
[note: this post is NOT sponsored, I just want to share what I’m using and how]

from my personal curriculum basket —

I did a lot more Commonplacing this month and took a deep dive into Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown.

I haven’t had much time for fiction but it’s been fun to read alongside my 10-year-old and share his interests.

My Art Appreciation plans shifted a bit. But I did enjoy thumbing through my art masterpiece books and postcards.

Here is the art at one of the aquariums we visited:

And check out this fun optical illusion from The Museums of Illusions. We went to for my 14-year-olds birthday and had a lot of fun.

I also did reach my goals of:

  • more long walks
  • baking pumpkin bread (& I even made pumpkin pancakes🥞)
  • deep work on writing projects and the Teachable platform
  • enjoying my fall playlists

.

🍿🎥Movie Nights:

Adding some seasonal movie nights was a fun twist that I liked. I will definitely do that more with the holiday season coming up. (It just might not be an official part of my personal curriculum.)

A favorite not listed in my October planning: Little Women (2019) with director Greta Gerwig. It was so wholesome and layered with warmth, friendship, and purpose. The perfect cozy fall movie! 🍂

.

Confessions:

  • I still have not picked up my watercolor supplies and done anything with them. For some random reason the motivation is just not there right now.
  • I also did not write any letters to send via snail mail. But I did send off some freebie gifts to a few winners from this post.

book-ish rewards and fun things —

In this recent post I shared my list of 30 types of items that I have collected over the years in my book nerd era:

30 Book-ish Rewards & How I’m Celebrating Progress

and in the video I shared a few more… 🤓📖

I have been getting better at celebrating milestones and accomplishments. My rewards basket is one of the ways that I do that.

These are items that I find and collect slowly to enjoy when the time is right.

a few that I mentioned in the video:

My favorite place to get book-ish rewards: the gift area in bookstores!!

Thanks for following along on my October learning journey. Sharing these rhythms with you makes it all the more meaningful.

I’m already gathering ideas for November…

…and I’m finishing reading Impossible Creatures and The Poisoned King by Katherine Rundell. 🐉

If you’ve been building your own version of a personal curriculum this fall, I’d love to hear what’s been inspiring you.
