Personal learning and growth can feel impossible when smushed into an overwhelming schedule but rhythms and routines can be grounding and create calm.
Often we are so excited to jump into tackling a personal curriculum or new hobby that we forget we need to make space for that. We will end up frustrated and disappointed if we try to cram a whole list of things into an already full schedule.
So today Adalyn and I scratched the surface in our conversation of these practices and how they have impacted our lives.
We had a great time discussing how we make space in our lives for personal growth, all the tasks, and our own learning.
We have each discovered that rhythms and routines create the stability and structure for what we actually want to do with our days.
With some deliberate planning we can get so much more done in a day without much brain power.
Adalyn mentioned that many of her routines are focused on physical self-care and emotional care. (Like exercise, journaling, taking vitamins..) She feels better when her morning routine gets her started with some basics.
In my life, my evening rhythm makes space for what I enjoy. After dinner, I clean up the dishes, wipe the kitchen counters, and prepare that space for another busy day. Then I sit on the couch and read, or listen to an audiobook with my knitting. I know that no matter what kind of day it has been I will reset my kitchen and get some time to read.

some backstory that got cut from the beginning:
Adalyn was a Beta Reader for my book and is an excellent source of ideas. She is very grounded and does a great job at balancing her many commitments and busy schedule.
Something I appreciate about Adalyn is how she values planning and being intentional. She has been a long time blog reader and her feedback has helped shape my writing to be easy to apply.
I am thrilled to share this conversation with you all!

“Try different rhythms and routines until you find one that works for you. I’ve never regretted having a rhythm or a routine. It never made me feel more busy. Often I have felt more structured and it freed up my day and my mind for what matters to me.” – Adalyn H.
